[in progress]

Being a “good citizen” of the earth, considering how our actions impact others, is central to who we are. So, we source locally, repurpose, and buy goods made from recycled materials when we can. Here’s a (probably incomplete) list of where we get the things here at Cowork Frederick.

  • Coffee: The coffee in our break rooms comes from local Dublin Roasters Coffee. It’s fair trade, organic, and roasted in small batches.
  • Snacks: Members bring in a lot of snacks, sometimes baked at home. Sometimes we bake right here in the Clubhouse kitchen. For budget reasons, when we buy them, we get them from chain grocery stores, most often Giant Food, but sometimes Walmart.
  • Dairy & Eggs: We buy the milk, half-&-half, butter, and eggs in our fridges from local South Mountain Creamery. Bonus: milk and half-&-half are delivered in glass bottles, which we return, so they can be reused.
  • Furniture: Most of the furniture was previously used and either purchased or donated to us.
  • Office Supplies: Many of the things on the office supply shelf have been (and continue to be) brought in by members in take-some/leave-some fashion. When we buy things like tape, printer paper, or envelopes, we buy ones made from recycled materials, typically from Staples. Points we earn by recycling batteries and print cartridges help pay for them.
  • Produce: We buy most of our produce from Common Market, choosing food from local farms when we can. Nearly all of it is organic. During growing season, we sometimes get produce from a local farmers market, and members often bring in bounty from their gardens (always extra special).
  • Seltzer & Soft Drinks: Because local and organic don’t apply here, we get these from chain grocery stores, most often Giant Food and Safeway, but sometimes Walmart.
  • Tea: Much of the tea here has been brought in by members. Cowork Frederick also purchases fair trade, organic Numi brand tea bags and loose tea from local Voila! Special Teas.
