Spotlight: John Limpert

John leads a team of developers working on software for private equity companies. He spends much of his time connecting with the team and with clients throughout the work day. He is a devoted family man who strives to prioritize home life over work life!

Extracurriculars

You can catch John spending regular quality time with his wife and their two kids. He enjoys anything active – like running, playing frisbee, and riding his bike to Cowork! – and dabbling in the kitchen. Our Community is regularly on the receiving end of John’s homemade sourdough bread, as well as the occasional experimental, fruity kombucha recipe. In his words, he enjoys, “all sorts of fermented goods; both consuming and making”!

Why we love John

To give you a clear picture of how John fits into the Community here, you should know that he was voted “Most Likely To Brighten Your Day” in the 2025 Member Awards. We would be hard-pressed to think of a time where John wasn’t warm, welcoming, and smiling. He lightens the atmosphere as soon as he walks into a room – typically with something tasty to share, as stated above! John genuinely wants to connect with everyone; it shows in the way he asks questions and listens as he engages with people. If you want to feel seen and valued, go spend some time with John!

Q&A with John

How did you get into the private equity world?
Personally, I love software but mostly fell into the finance side because I was looking for another job. Before that I did warehouse management systems, before that I worked with connecting patients to virtual doctor visits (pre-COVID), and before that I worked in the auto field trying to leverage the different chips in your phones.

Cowork Frederick members are rebels in their own way. Thinking about how you approach your life or career, what makes you unique?
I hope this is changing but the software industry is very hustle-oriented. I like to think that I am a rebel where I am 9-5. I’m not sure my employers like it too much, but I think it’s a way I stand out in the space.

What is significant business-related mistake you made and what did you learn from it?
As most people in software have done, I have completely deleted our company’s app in production. It took days to recover but I learned it’s never right to blame the person, but to blame the process.

Which of the guiding values defined by Cowork Frederick members speaks to you?
I think always being curious is extremely important in life. I believe that learning and being interested in the world around you, helps make a better you. It gives you permission to reach out, talk to others, and learn about them. Plus, I think it’s the number one thing for a long and happy life.

Who/What inspires you and keeps you going?
What helps me keep going with work? Everything outside of work! I have a great family and want to provide for them; I also have a handful of hobbies that help keep me refreshed and relaxed.

Why Cowork Frederick?
At first, I needed Cowork because my home office is really just a glorified closet. Cowork was a way to get out of the house and start talking to people again. I stayed at Cowork for the people, it’s amazing to meet everyone from all different places and types of work, and to hear about everything they are doing.

For those who want to learn more, how can you be reached?
